Course materials from James Howe’s thirty-nine years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are available at MIT OpenCourseWare (ocw.mit.edu).  Professor Howe took particular pleasure in three courses: “The Supernatural in Music, Literature & Culture,” taught jointly with colleagues in Music and Literature; “Photography and Truth,” inherited from his colleague, Susan Slyomovics; and a graduate seminar in social theory taught for the doctoral program in the History and Social Study of Science and Technology.

Contrary to what one website seems to suggest, Professor Howe is not an expert on the Sudan, nor, to his great regret, is he author of Bunnicula or Howliday Inn.  He is immensely proud that from 2013 to 2024 his home department at MIT kept an annual undergraduate writing prize in his name.
